Chapter 4 - The Billionaire's Desperation

Ethan collapsed against the brick wall of the hospital as the black van sped away into the city.
He knew he could not call the police because Daniel had several high-ranking officers on his private payroll.
He pulled a burner phone from his coat pocket and dialed a number he had not used in twenty years.
He called Vance, an ex-CIA operative who used to handle his most dangerous corporate sabotage cases.
Vance picked up Ethan in an armored SUV less than ten minutes later.
Using the city's traffic camera network, Vance quickly tracked the black van’s license plate.
The vehicle had been driven to a massive, abandoned shipyard on the edge of the harbor.
Ethan and Vance arrived at the rusted gates under the cover of total darkness.
They crept through the shadows of towering shipping containers until they heard voices.
Daniel was standing at the edge of a concrete pier, holding the silver compass in his hand.
Maya was tied to a chair, desperately trying to shield the terrified twins from the cold wind.
Daniel viciously popped the back of the silver compass open with a pocket knife.
He revealed a tiny microdot hidden inside the casing.
Daniel explained that the compass contained the master passwords to Ethan’s secret offshore fortune.

He pointed a loaded gun directly at the head of one of the five-year-old twins.
He demanded that Maya tell him the encryption key, or he would pull the trigger.
