Chapter 3 - The Flight of the Innocent

The hospital room descended into absolute, terrifying silence.
Daniel’s charming smile did not falter, but his eyes turned completely dead and empty.
He reached inside his tailored suit jacket, his hand resting on a concealed weapon.
Ethan instantly understood that Daniel would kill them all right here in the hospital to keep his dark secrets buried.
Ethan forced a laugh, pretending he believed Daniel’s excuse about the medication causing hallucinations.
He ordered Daniel to go down to the cafeteria and get him a black coffee.
Daniel hesitated for a tense moment before slowly backing out of the room.
The second the door clicked shut, Ethan ripped the IV needles out of his own arm.
He grabbed Maya by the shoulders and told her that Daniel was a monster who had lied to him for decades.
He urged her to take the girls and run to the service elevators immediately.
Maya scooped up the twins without asking any questions and sprinted down the sterile hallway.
Ethan threw on his coat, struggling to breathe as his weakened heart pounded in his chest.

He stumbled into the alleyway just in time to hear the screech of tires.
He looked up to see Daniel’s armed security team violently dragging Maya and the crying twins into a black van.
