Chapter 6 - The Infiltration

The armored SUV tore through the quiet city streets, running every red light we encountered.

Evelyn's hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles turned completely white.

We arrived at the private surgical facility, which was disguised as an abandoned concrete warehouse near the industrial docks.

Four heavily armed corporate mercenaries were patrolling the perimeter with aggressive guard dogs on tight leashes.

Evelyn parked the SUV in a dark, narrow alleyway behind a row of rusted shipping containers.

She handed me a heavy tactical vest and an earpiece connected to a secure radio frequency.

"I will hack their external security grid and open the loading dock doors, but you will have to fight your way to the basement," she instructed.

I strapped the heavy vest over my chest and gripped the cold steel of the shotgun tightly.

I promised her that I would not leave this building without all five of those children.

I crept through the damp shadows, avoiding the sweep of the security spotlights scanning the yard.

Evelyn gave the signal over my earpiece, and the heavy metal doors of the loading dock slowly began to rise.

I slid underneath the metal door just before an armed guard turned the corner to investigate the mechanical noise.

The interior of the facility looked like a sterile, high-tech fortress hidden inside a decaying shell.

I navigated the brightly lit corridors, using the blueprints Evelyn had downloaded to my smart watch.

Two guards stepped out of a break room directly in front of me, raising their rifles in surprise.

I did not hesitate to swing the heavy butt of my shotgun into the first guard's jaw, knocking him unconscious instantly.

The second guard lunged at me with a combat knife, slicing a burning gash across my left shoulder.

I ignored the sharp pain, grabbed his wrist, and twisted it violently until he dropped the blade.

I shoved him hard against the concrete wall and secured his hands with a pair of heavy zip-ties from my vest.

I dragged my bleeding arm toward the heavy steel doors marking the entrance to the subterranean surgical ward.

I swiped the stolen security card Evelyn had provided, and the electronic lock clicked open with a green light.

I burst into the sterile hallway, ready to fight my way into the main operating theater.

But the corridor was completely empty, and the surgical rooms were entirely dark and deserted.

I frantically searched every single room, but there was no sign of the children, the doctors, or Arthur.

Evelyn’s voice suddenly crackled through my earpiece, but she didn't sound helpful anymore.

"I am so sorry, Mr. Carter, but Arthur offered me my pharmaceutical company back in exchange for leading you into his trap."
