Chapter 3 - The Ghost in the Walls

The heavy, soundproof oak door of the master suite remained firmly locked, completely isolating Elena in a world of extreme danger.
Downstairs in the private study, Julian violently shattered his favorite crystal glass against the expensive stone fireplace.
"You are aggressively letting a highly dangerous, manipulative whore blind your strategic judgment, Julian!" Beatrice yelled across the destroyed room.
Julian wiped a small drop of expensive whiskey from his jaw, entirely ignoring the chaotic mess he had just created.
"If Elena was truly a trained Rossi assassin, you would already be dead before you even raised that cane to strike her," Julian countered coldly.
"She arrived at this estate with absolutely nothing but a forged recommendation letter and a deeply bruised past," his mother argued fiercely.
"I ran a massive, highly illegal background check on her yesterday, and absolutely no official record of an Elena Silva exists anywhere in Europe."
Julian felt a massive, icy spike of genuine doubt fiercely pierce through his aggressively stubborn heart.
He had entirely allowed this quiet, mysteriously competent maid to penetrate his heavy emotional armor in a way no woman ever had.
He had shared his darkest secrets with her in the dead of night, trusting her completely with his incredibly dangerous life.
"If I discover that you forcefully planted that severed finger just to aggressively eliminate her, I will permanently exile you to Sicily, Mother," Julian threatened darkly.
Without waiting for his mother's furious response, Julian aggressively stormed out of the study and marched purposefully toward the master wing.
He urgently needed to look directly into Elena's beautiful eyes and aggressively demand the absolute truth about her missing past.
His heavily armored boots echoed loudly down the long, empty hallway, fully signaling his incredibly dark, violent mood to anyone listening.
He forcefully swiped his master keycard against the biometric scanner, and the heavy bedroom door smoothly clicked open.
"Elena, we deeply need to have a serious conversation right now," Julian announced as he aggressively stepped into the luxurious suite.
The massive, completely silent room offered absolutely no response to his demanding tone.
The enormous king-sized bed was completely empty, the expensive silk sheets perfectly untouched.
Julian quickly drew his heavy sidearm, his tactical instincts instantly overriding his overwhelming, desperate panic.
He aggressively cleared the massive bathroom and the walk-in closets, finding absolutely no trace of the pregnant woman.
Then, a sudden, terrifying blast of freezing autumn wind aggressively whipped through the dark bedroom.
Julian slowly lowered his weapon, completely horrified as he walked carefully toward the far side of the massive room.
The thick, heavily reinforced security glass of the suite's balcony window had been entirely shattered from the inside out.
A thick, violently tied rope completely fashioned from the expensive bedsheets was tightly secured to the heavy iron railing.

But what forcefully stopped Julian's rapidly beating heart was not the fact that she had successfully escaped a locked room.
It was the massive, incredibly fresh pool of dark crimson blood heavily completely covering the pristine white windowsill.
