Chapter 2 - The Real Mistress

I watched the violent flames consume everything I owned.
Karin was supposed to be inside the restaurant with Tyler right now.
Yet she was standing perfectly still on my sidewalk, holding a red gasoline can in her hand.
She pulled out her phone and typed a quick message with a cruel smile on her face.
My own phone buzzed in my purse a fraction of a second later.
It was a new text message from Tyler's phone number.
"It is done, my love."
"Giana is trapped inside."
I gasped in sheer, paralyzing horror.
Tyler had never actually planned to divorce me.
He had meticulously planned to murder me.
The anniversary dinner was nothing but an alibi to prove he was in a public place while his wife burned to death.
The man I had loved and married was a complete monster.
Suddenly, the passenger door of my taxi was violently ripped open.
A massive, gloved hand grabbed my arm and pulled me out onto the street.
I screamed and tried to fight back against the attacker.
"Be quiet if you want to live," a deep, familiar voice commanded.
It was Mr. Cross.
He dragged me into a heavily armored black SUV parked in the dark shadows of an alleyway.
He locked the heavy doors and signaled his driver to speed away from the scene.
I pressed my back against the leather seat, panting heavily as adrenaline flooded my system.
"Why did you give me that envelope?" I demanded, my voice shaking.
"Because Tyler owes my syndicate fifty million dollars," Mr. Cross said calmly.
"He offered to give me the vault key tonight in exchange for clearing his massive debt."
"But Tyler tried to be clever and gave me an envelope meant for someone else."
Mr. Cross tapped a button on his sleek dashboard screen.
A live surveillance video feed appeared on the glowing monitor.
It showed Tyler tied to a metal chair in a dark, abandoned warehouse.
He was covered in brutal bruises and bleeding heavily from his mouth.
May you like
The person holding a heavy steel pipe over him was not a mafia enforcer.
It was Karin.
