Chapter 3 - The Double Life

I stared at the glowing computer screen in absolute horror as Camila's name appeared next to millions of stolen dollars.

Alexander stepped behind my chair and let out a sharp, frustrated breath as he read the decrypted financial documents.

Julian and my father were intentionally setting my golden sister up to take the ultimate fall for their massive crimes.

If the federal authorities ever investigated the merger, Camila would immediately be sent to federal prison for the rest of her life.

Despite her constant cruelty and arrogance, I could not let my own sister become a sacrificial lamb for our father's greed.

Alexander gently placed his hands on my tense shoulders and promised that we would find a way to save her.

His touch sent a warm wave of comfort through my exhausted body, reminding me that I was no longer fighting this war alone.

I realized I needed to gather physical evidence directly from my father's private study to prove the signatures were forged.

I returned to my family home late that evening, carefully hiding my expensive designer clothes in a cheap gym bag.

My mother intercepted me in the hallway, loudly complaining about how much time I was spending outside the house.

I ignored her nagging and quietly slipped into my bedroom to prepare for a dangerous midnight raid on the study.

At two in the morning, I crept silently down the dark staircase, avoiding the specific wooden steps I knew would creak.

My father's study was locked, but I had secretly stolen his spare key from his coat pocket earlier that afternoon.

I slipped inside the dark room and turned on a small penlight to illuminate the massive mahogany desk.

I quickly located the hidden bottom drawer and used a thin paperclip to pick the simple metal lock.

Inside the drawer, I found a thick leather binder filled with blank documents pre-signed by a completely unaware Camila.

I frantically took high-resolution photographs of every single page using my encrypted cellular phone.

Suddenly, the heavy brass doorknob began to slowly turn from the outside.

I quickly killed my penlight and dove silently under the massive desk just as the door swung open.

The harsh hallway light spilled into the dark study, illuminating the expensive Persian rug right next to my face.

I held my breath as two pairs of expensive leather shoes walked confidently into the quiet room.

I immediately recognized the voices of Julian and my father discussing the final phase of their illegal operation.

Julian coldly stated that the wedding needed to happen immediately so they could finalize the offshore transfers.

My father agreed, casually mentioning that they would anonymously tip off the police about Camila immediately after the honeymoon.

I clamped my hand tightly over my mouth to completely muffle my terrified gasp.

Julian suddenly stopped talking and looked down directly at the carpet.

He slowly pulled a sharp silver pocket knife from his suit jacket and bent down toward the desk.
