Chapter 7 - Face to Face

Mitchell smiled terrifyingly down at me, but his dark eyes were completely cold, dead, and utterly devoid of any human emotion.
He aggressively tightened his cruel grip on my trembling shoulder, digging his long fingers incredibly painfully into my soft skin.
He leaned his face in uncomfortably close to my ear and menacingly whispered that I was making a terrible, fatal mistake.
He quietly told me that if I just walked away right now and left the USB drive behind, he would generously drop the federal kidnapping charges.
I bravely looked up at the very man I had deeply loved for five years and felt absolutely nothing inside but pure, unadulterated disgust.
I furiously asked him how he could possibly stand by and let his wicked mother forcefully shave his own innocent daughter's head.
Mitchell simply rolled his eyes in profound annoyance and coldly stated that Daisy needed to learn harsh discipline anyway.
He aggressively reached his free hand toward the humming computer tower to violently yank the USB drive out of the metal port.
I knew instantly that I could not possibly overpower his large, muscular frame in a direct physical altercation.
Instead, I took a massive, deep breath and let out a blood-curdling, ear-piercing scream of pure terror.
I forcefully kicked my heavy wooden chair violently backward and began shouting at the very top of my lungs for someone to please call the police.
The normally peaceful and quiet library instantly erupted into a state of absolute, bewildered chaos.
Startled patrons jumped up defensively from their reading seats, and the terrified elderly librarian immediately rushed over to our secluded corner.
Mitchell stepped backward in genuine shock, rapidly raising his hands in the air to look like a completely innocent victim.
In that very brief, chaotic moment of perfect distraction, I rapidly snatched the loaded USB drive directly from the computer port.
I forcefully shoved the tiny plastic device incredibly deep into my jeans pocket and sprinted furiously toward the glowing red emergency exit.
I violently pushed my entire body weight through the heavy metal doors and ran desperately to my running car without ever looking back once.
My frantic heart hammered painfully in my chest as I recklessly drove back toward Aunt Martha's quiet suburban house.
I finally possessed the undeniable, hard evidence I desperately needed to legally destroy his entire corrupt family once and for all.
I eagerly rushed up the wooden front steps, profoundly eager to safely hold my sweet Daisy in my arms again.

But when I finally reached the top of the porch, the blood in my veins ran absolutely freezing cold.
The heavy, solid oak front door was completely shattered into pieces and hanging ominously wide open.
