Chapter 9 - The King Awakens

Sterling gasped incredibly loudly, his eyes bulging in absolute, pure horror as the supposed corpse violently moved.

Everett didn't just grab the gun; he viciously twisted the metal barrel with a brutal, terrifying strength.

A sickening, incredibly loud crack echoed vividly in the small ambulance as Sterling’s wrist completely snapped under the crushing pressure.

The expensive gun clattered utterly harmlessly to the cold metal floor.

Sterling screamed in pure agony, stumbling helplessly backward toward the locked rear doors.

Everett sat up slowly and menacingly, the white sheet falling away completely to reveal his pale, incredibly furious face.

He violently ripped the plastic oxygen mask off, taking a deep, wonderfully ragged breath of free air.

For a man who had been completely comatose for eight brutal months, he moved with the terrifying, predatory grace of a starving wolf.

He lunged violently forward, aggressively grabbing Sterling by the throat and slamming him brutally against the side wall of the moving ambulance.

"You," Everett rasped, his voice deep and unimaginably rough like violently grinding stones.

"You completely forgot exactly whose city this is."

Sterling frantically clawed at the iron grip ruthlessly crushing his windpipe, his face rapidly turning a mottled, disgusting purple.

"Everett, please, I'm sorry," Sterling choked out, pathetic tears of pain and sheer terror spilling down his flushed cheeks.

Everett simply tilted his head slightly, his stormy gray eyes entirely devoid of any human mercy or forgiveness.

"Where exactly is the girl's mother right now?" Everett demanded coldly, tightening his lethal grip just a tiny fraction.

"She's completely safe," Sterling gasped frantically, fighting desperately for oxygen.

"She's at the Lakeside facility, I swear no one has touched her!"

Everett looked back intensely at Willa, silently seeking her confirmation.

Willa nodded quickly, absolutely terrified but utterly mesmerized by the dark, immense power radiating brightly from her husband.

Everett suddenly released Sterling, letting the treacherous, pathetic cousin crumple into a weeping heap on the floor.

Crowley, who had been driving the whole time, knocked sharply on the glass partition window.

"We are safely approaching the secured safe house, Boss," the old man called out, a hint of fierce, undeniable joy in his voice.

Everett casually kicked the discarded gun across the floor directly toward Willa.

"Keep that aimed directly on him," he ordered her smoothly, profound exhaustion finally flickering in his dark eyes.

The ambulance screeched violently to a halt inside a heavily fortified, underground parking garage.

Dozens of heavily armed men, proudly wearing the original Kane family crest, instantly surrounded the vehicle.

They pulled the heavy rear doors violently open, raising their high-powered weapons in perfect unison.

Sterling let out a truly pathetic whimper, weakly crawling backward toward the exit.

"Welcome back, Mr. Kane," the lead guard said respectfully, completely ignoring the weeping man on the floor.

Everett stood up remarkably straight, his massive frame utterly dominating the small space.

"Take out the trash," Everett commanded coldly, pointing down at his cousin.
