Chapter 9 - The Phantom Billionaire

Alexander looked back at Maya, his expression completely unreadable.

He did not offer a warm smile or a tearful apology for his seven-year absence.

He simply turned forward and ordered his heavily armed driver to head to the city.

“How are you alive?” Maya demanded, her voice breaking with emotion.

“The plane crash was a necessary illusion to keep you safe from the syndicate,” Alexander replied coldly.

Eleanor stared at the man she had once welcomed into her family as a son.

He looked completely different from the gentle architect Maya had married.

He now radiated a dangerous, commanding aura of absolute power and wealth.

The armored SUV navigated the winding mountain roads away from the blazing estate.

Lily peeked over her mother’s shoulder, staring at the stranger.

“Is that my dad?” the little girl asked softly.

Alexander’s eyes flickered to the rearview mirror, locking onto the silver crescent necklace around Lily’s neck.

A strange, unrecognizable emotion flashed across his face for a split second.

“Yes, I am,” he finally answered, his voice devoid of paternal warmth.

They arrived at an ultra-modern skyscraper in the center of the city.

Alexander led them into a private elevator that shot up to the penthouse level.

The doors opened to reveal a massive, luxurious fortress of glass and steel.

A team of private doctors was already waiting to treat their burns and cuts.

Eleanor finally felt a wave of exhaustion crash over her battered body.

They had survived the betrayal, the suffocation, and the blazing inferno.

Victoria’s empire of lies had literally burned to the ground.

Maya sat on a plush velvet sofa, holding Lily tightly as the nurses bandaged their wounds.

She looked around the billion-dollar penthouse, realizing her husband had become something entirely new.

“Why didn't you come for us sooner, Alexander?” Maya asked quietly.

Alexander poured himself a glass of expensive bourbon at the marble bar.

“I had to wait until Victoria flushed all the syndicate rats out into the open,” he explained.

He walked over and gently touched Maya’s cheek.

“But it is over now, you are perfectly safe here with me.”

He turned to the massive glass window overlooking the glittering city skyline.

Maya watched his broad shoulders, trying to convince herself the nightmare was finally over.

She picked up a soft blanket and carried a sleepy Lily toward the guest bedroom.

She felt a deep sense of peace knowing her family was finally reunited.

As she closed the bedroom door, she noticed a strange light blinking on a sleek tablet left on the hallway table.

Maya picked it up to turn the screen off, but her thumb accidentally brushed a live security feed.
