Chapter 10 - The Golden Trap

The security footage on the tablet showed a dark, underground parking garage.
Maya watched the screen as two of Alexander’s tactical guards opened the trunk of a black sedan.
Inside the trunk lay Victoria, bound and gagged, but very much alive.
Maya sighed in relief, assuming Alexander was preparing to hand her over to the federal authorities.
She set the tablet down and walked softly back into the grand living room.
She wanted to thank her husband for saving them from the fire and ending the terror.
The penthouse was quiet, bathed in the soft glow of the city lights below.
She saw Alexander standing on the balcony, speaking quietly into a satellite phone.
Maya smiled and pushed the glass door open slightly to surprise him.
Her husband was holding the silver crescent necklace he had slipped off Lily’s neck during the medical exam.
He was tracing the hidden engraving on the back with his thumb.
“Victoria played her part perfectly, sir, and I finally have the key to the main vault,” Alexander whispered with a cold, terrifying laugh.
He looked back into the penthouse, his eyes devoid of any human empathy.

“Send the cleanup crew up to the penthouse immediately,” he commanded into the phone.
“The women served their purpose by distracting the old lady, but my wife and daughter will not survive the night.”
