Chapter 8 - The Price of Greed

I swung the heavy iron pipe with every ounce of strength my newly recovered legs could generate.
The metal struck Vance squarely in the knees with a sickening crunch.
Vance screamed in agony, his weapon firing blindly into the ceiling as he crumpled to the concrete floor.
I immediately dove for his dropped gun, snatching it up and rolling behind a rusted steel pillar for cover.
Gabriel roared in absolute fury, pulling his own weapon and unleashing a hail of bullets at my position.
Sparks rained down around me as the heavy ammunition tore through the old metal pillar.
"You always ruin everything, Ethan!" Gabriel screamed, his voice echoing through the massive warehouse.
I peaked around the corner and fired two precise shots, grazing Gabriel's shoulder and forcing him to dive behind a stack of crates.
High above us, the weakened catwalk let out another terrifying groan.
Rebecca screamed loudly as the metal shifted again, dropping them a few inches closer to the deadly fall.
"Sammy, hold on tight!" I shouted, ignoring the searing pain shooting through my recovering legs.
I broke from cover, sprinting across the open warehouse floor faster than I ever thought possible.
Gabriel fired wildly at me, but his aim was compromised by the bleeding wound on his shoulder.
I reached the rusted iron staircase leading up to the catwalk and began taking the steps two at a time.
My muscles burned with intense fatigue, the synthetic poison still fighting to maintain control over my nervous system.
I reached the top platform just as Gabriel stepped out from the shadows below, aiming his gun directly at my back.
"This ends right now, Ethan!" Gabriel yelled, his finger tightening on the trigger.
Before Gabriel could fire, Vance suddenly lunged from the floor, grabbing Gabriel's ankle in a desperate attempt to redeem himself.
Gabriel stumbled, and his shot went wide, shattering the heavy chain holding the main support pulley above the catwalk.

The entire metal structure violently snapped in half.
I lunged forward, throwing my arms out over the empty abyss just as Rebecca and Sammy fell.
