Chapter 10 - The Caldwell Legacy

I crashed hard into the thick metal safety netting suspended just above the fire jets.

The heavy mesh groaned under my weight but held firm, keeping me inches away from a fiery death.

I rolled desperately across the scorching netting, my clothes smoking, until I tumbled over the edge onto the solid concrete floor.

Gabriel charged at me through the smoke, raising his gun to finish the job.

But before he could pull the trigger, my legs found their absolute true strength.

I launched myself off the ground like a coiled spring, tackling my brother with the force of a freight train.

We crashed into the main electrical panel, sending a shower of sparks raining down on us.

I unleashed twenty years of misplaced guilt and furious anger into a single, devastating punch to Gabriel's jaw.

His head snapped back against the steel panel, and he slumped to the floor, completely unconscious.

The wail of police sirens finally pierced the chaos as dozens of heavily armed tactical units flooded the steel mill.

They immediately secured Gabriel and called for emergency medical teams to tend to Vance and extinguish the flames.

I ignored the paramedics and walked completely unassisted over to the ladder to help Rebecca and Sammy climb down.

Sammy wrapped his tiny arms tightly around my neck, and I held him close, tears of overwhelming joy falling from my eyes.

Three months later, Gabriel was sentenced to life in a maximum-security federal prison, and Marcus was indicted for corporate fraud.

I successfully reclaimed total control of Caldwell Enterprises, and my legs fully recovered without a single trace of the synthetic poison.

I officially adopted Sammy, gave Rebecca a permanent, luxurious home on my estate, and we finally became the family I never knew I needed.

We were safe, happy, and entirely free from the dark shadows of my traumatic past.

Then, the morning mail arrived with a heavily sealed manila envelope containing the results of a routine genetic test for Sammy.

The official laboratory document confirmed that Rebecca was never Sammy's biological mother.

The name listed under the biological father's section was completely blank, but the attached handwritten note changed everything.

The message simply read: "Thank you for keeping my son safe, Ethan, but the cartel is coming to take him back tonight."
