Chapter 9 - The Final Strike

The enormous shadowy hand yanked Kaelen violently toward the fiery abyss splitting the throne room floor.
He dug his fingers into the shattered marble, desperately fighting against the overwhelming demonic pull.
Elara did not freeze in fear.
She sprinted across the crumbling floor and grabbed Kaelen's free hand with both of hers, anchoring her sturdy boots into a deep crack.
The King threw his head back and laughed, the sound echoing like cracking thunder.
"You cannot fight the inevitable, little girl," the demon King mocked, preparing to cast a dark spell to finish them off.
But the King had underestimated the power of the Blood Oath.
As Elara gripped Kaelen's hand, her silver celestial magic surged directly into his veins, creating a massive feedback loop of pure light.
A blinding shockwave of silver energy blasted out from their joined hands, severing the shadowy arm completely.
Kaelen rolled backward onto solid ground, instantly jumping to his feet with the glass dagger gleaming in his hand.
"Distract him!" Kaelen yelled to Elara as he dashed behind the crumbling pillars.
Elara picked up a heavy discarded shield from a fallen guard and hurled it directly at the King's head.
The King sneered and easily swatted the heavy metal shield away with a flick of his wrist.
But the distraction cost him exactly one second.
It was all the time Kaelen needed.
The prince leaped from the balcony above, plunging the magical glass dagger directly into the center of his father's back.
The King let out an ear-piercing shriek that shattered every remaining stained-glass window in the hall.
Thick black smoke poured from the King's eyes, mouth, and chest as the celestial magic annihilated the demonic parasite.
For a moment, the King’s eyes returned to their normal blue, and he looked at his son with profound sadness.
"I am sorry," the King whispered, before his body crumbled entirely into a pile of gray dust.
The terrifying purple light in the wooden frame instantly died out.
The fiery abyss in the floor sealed shut, leaving only cracked marble behind.
The surviving royal guards rushed into the room, stopping in utter shock at the sight of the dead King.
Seeing Kaelen standing victorious with glowing silver eyes, the captain of the guard immediately dropped to one knee.
One by one, every soldier, servant, and captive bride bowed deeply in profound reverence.
