Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault

The King's laughter echoed menacingly off the damp stone walls of the hidden chamber.
Elara scrambled backward on the altar, her heart pounding frantically against her ribs.
Kaelen immediately drew his sword, stepping protectively in front of her.
"You will not touch her, Father," Kaelen stated firmly, his knuckles turning white around the hilt of his weapon.
"Do not be a fool, boy," King Roland sneered, gesturing for his executioners to advance.
"Her silver blood is the key to eternal rule, and I will not let a pathetic girl stand in the way of my destiny."
Two massive executioners charged forward, swinging heavy battle axes that easily sliced through the thick air.
Kaelen deflected the first blow with a shower of sparks, using his agility to slip past the hulking guards.
He kicked the second guard in the knee, sending the massive man crashing onto the cold floor.
"Run, Elara!" Kaelen shouted, parrying another heavy strike from the first executioner.
Elara did not hesitate for a second.
She threw herself off the altar and sprinted toward a narrow, dark tunnel at the back of the chamber.
"Stop her!" the King bellowed, drawing his own sword and rushing into the fray.
Elara ran blindly through the pitch-black corridor, her hands brushing against the damp, mossy walls.
She could hear the sounds of clashing steel and agonizing shouts echoing behind her.
Suddenly, the floor beneath her feet gave way, and she tumbled down a steep, rocky chute.
She landed harshly in a massive underground vault illuminated by glowing blue crystals.
The walls were lined with thousands of ancient books, weapons, and strange magical artifacts.
As she stood up, brushing the dirt from her torn dress, she noticed a massive portrait hanging on the far wall.
It was a painting of a woman who looked exactly like her, wearing a crown of woven stars.
Elara stepped closer, her trembling hand reaching out to touch the dusty canvas.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the darkest corner of the vault.
"I have waited twenty years for you to return to this room, princess," the raspy voice whispered.
Elara spun around, grabbing a heavy iron candlestick to defend herself.

A shadowy figure stepped into the blue light, revealing the face of the assassin who was supposed to be dead in the throne room.
He smiled a bloodstained smile and whispered, "The prince is not trying to save you, Elara, he is fattening you up for the slaughter."
