Chapter 7 - The Extraction

The sudden darkness caused instant panic among Vance's men.
"Get the backup generators online!" Vance screamed, his voice cracking with fear.
"Don't let him move!"
They didn't realize that my watch had just triggered a localized electromagnetic pulse.
Every flashlight, laser sight, and electronic lock in the building was completely fried.
I had thirty seconds before their eyes adjusted to the moonlight filtering through the skylights.
I snapped the zip ties using a concealed ceramic blade embedded in my belt buckle.
I stood up and moved silently into the shadows of a massive shipping container.
Gunfire erupted blindly as the guards shot at the empty chair.
I needed to find the control room to locate Hector and secure an exit.
I moved like a ghost through the labyrinth of crates, taking out two guards with precise strikes to the neck.
I reached the elevated catwalk and breached the glass door of the control booth.
Inside, Maya was tied to a radiator, gagged and bruised.
She had followed me to the alley and been taken captive as well.
I quickly cut her loose and helped her to her feet.
"Are you okay?" I whispered.
She nodded, tears streaming down her face.
"Hector is in the container marked Delta-Four," she choked out.
"They were going to drop it into the ocean."
We crept down the metal stairs, avoiding the flashlight beams of the remaining guards.
I found container Delta-Four and broke the padlock with a heavy steel pipe.
Hector was inside, unconscious but breathing.
I threw him over my shoulder and signaled Maya to follow me toward the loading bay doors.
"Stop right there!" Jenkins shouted, blocking the exit with a heavy shotgun.
He racked the slide, aiming it directly at Maya's chest.
"Put him down, Mr. Sterling, or the girl dies."
Before I could react, Maya pulled a small silver object from her pocket and pressed it.
It was the broken body camera from the alley.
A bright red light blinked on the device.
"It wasn't broken," Maya declared loudly.

"It was just uploading."
"Every word Vance said in here was just live-streamed to Chad's ten million followers."
