Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Elias dove violently behind a heavy stack of steel shipping crates just as the massive gunfire erupted.
Deadly bullets tore fiercely through the metal, showering his face in hot, blinding sparks.
Bruno and the heavily armed mercenaries were moving in rapidly to execute him.
Elias returned fire completely blindly, dropping two men who foolishly tried to flank his position.
He desperately needed an absolute miracle if he was going to survive this warehouse ambush.
Suddenly, the massive glass skylight located directly above the loading dock shattered inward explosively.
A heavy tactical smoke grenade dropped rapidly onto the concrete floor, instantly engulfing the room in thick white fog.
The mercenaries completely stopped shooting, totally blinded and coughing wildly in the smoke.
Elias expertly used the confusion to sprint quietly toward the loading bay doors.
He confidently expected to find one of his loyal tactical teams waiting for him outside.
Instead, he ran directly into the cold metal barrel of a pointed pistol.
Adeline stood fiercely in the doorway, her beautiful eyes burning with a fiery, uncontainable rage.
Her small hands were shaking uncontrollably, but the heavy weapon was pointed dead center at his chest.
"You killed him!" she screamed loudly over the chaotic shouting inside the warehouse.
She violently threw the thick manila folder onto the ground aggressively at his feet.
Elias looked down quickly at the forged documents and immediately understood the sick manipulation perfectly.
"Adeline, listen to me very carefully," Elias pleaded genuinely, totally refusing to raise his own weapon against her.
"That file is a complete forgery created specifically by Rourke to divide us right now."
"Thomas was my absolute best friend, and he sacrificed himself willingly for me!"
Adeline pressed the gun much harder against his chest, tears streaming uncontrollably down her tired face.
"Why should I ever believe a monster like you?" she sobbed incredibly loudly.
"Because if I truly wanted you dead, I never would have followed you to that apartment," Elias answered with absolute, undeniable honesty.
The brutal, glaring truth of his words hung incredibly heavily in the air between them.
Adeline slowly lowered the heavy weapon, totally realizing he was telling the absolute truth.
"They went to the church for Leo," she choked out in sheer horror.
"Then we are going to literally kill every single person in our way to get him back," Elias promised darkly.
He aggressively grabbed a heavy assault rifle from a freshly fallen mercenary.
Together, they confidently turned back toward the thick smoke lingering inside the warehouse.
They fought bravely side by side, moving with a synchronized, incredibly deadly precision.
Elias took down the armed guards effortlessly while Adeline covered his blind spots perfectly.
They finally cornered Bruno Marchetti near the rusty back office stairs.
Bruno nervously raised his hands in complete surrender, laughing incredibly nervously.
"Come on, Elias, we can make a brand new deal," Bruno begged pathetically.
Elias did not hesitate for even a tiny fraction of a second.
He coldly pulled the trigger, ending the terrible traitor's life instantly.
Suddenly, Elias's digital radio crackled loudly on his tactical belt.

"If you want your precious boy to breathe again, come to Pier 49," Rourke's voice echoed tauntingly through the speaker.
The terrible sound of Leo crying terrified in the background chilled Elias to his very core.
