Chapter 8 - The Ghost Arrives

Grant did not flinch as the doctor’s gun pressed harder into his skull.
He slowly released his grip on his pistol, letting it fall silently onto the thick carpet.
Hannah gasped in terror as Dr. Hale grabbed her arm roughly, twisting it behind her back.
"You really should have stuck to cleaning floors, housekeeper," Hale sneered.
The office doors swung open, and Daniel stepped out, holding a terrified Lucy by the collar of her pajamas.
"Mommy!" Lucy screamed, kicking her little legs desperately.
"Shut her up, or I will," Daniel threatened, shoving the toddler toward Hannah.
Hannah caught her daughter, holding her so tightly it looked like she would never let go.
"You are a dead man, Daniel," Grant said, his voice entirely devoid of emotion.
Daniel simply laughed, a cruel, mocking sound that echoed in the empty ballroom.
"You are blind and unarmed, Grant," Daniel mocked, stepping closer to gloat.
"You cannot even see the man who is about to take your entire empire."
Daniel was completely wrong.
Grant could see Daniel’s blurry silhouette, and more importantly, he could see exactly where Hale was standing behind him.
"Bring him into the office," Daniel ordered the doctor.
"The real boss is arriving in five minutes to sign the final transition papers."
Hale shoved Grant forward, forcing him into the luxurious office and locking the heavy doors behind them.
Grant played his part perfectly, stumbling slightly and reaching out blindly as if he were still trapped in total darkness.
He bumped against the heavy mahogany desk, secretly memorizing the exact layout of the room.
A few minutes later, a heavy helicopter landed loudly on the mansion’s front lawn.
The office doors opened again, and heavy footsteps entered the room, accompanied by the smell of expensive cologne.
"It has been a very long time, little brother," a deep, chilling voice announced.
Grant’s entire body went rigidly cold.
He would know that voice anywhere in the world.
It belonged to his older brother, Thomas, the former head of the family who had supposedly died in a shootout ten years ago.
"Thomas," Grant breathed out, staring at the blurry, broad-shouldered figure standing before him.
"You faked your own death, took over the Black Serpents, and then bombed my family?"
May you like
Thomas walked forward and poured himself a drink from the crystal decanter on the desk.
"You were always too soft to rule New York, Grant, so I had to take it all back."
