Chapter 4 - The Exiled Son

Thirty years ago, Victoria Vanguard had a son out of wedlock. To protect her political career, she had erased the boy, paying a working-class family in Chicago to raise him. His name was Arthur.
Julian found Arthur working as a high-end mechanic in a luxury dealership on the South Side. Arthur was wiping grease off his hands when Julian walked into the garage.
"Arthur Vanguard," Julian said, stepping into the light.
Arthur froze, dropping his wrench. "That’s not my name. My name is Arthur Vance. I don't want anything to do with that family."
"Your mother is in a coma, Arthur," Julian said bluntly. "Her daughter-in-law poisoned her and is currently liquidating your birthright to pay off Russian mobsters. If she gets control of the Senate seat, she'll have diplomatic immunity. I need your DNA to override the family trust."
"Why should I care?" Arthur sneered. "She threw me away."

"Because if Genevieve secures the trust, she’ll clean up the loose ends," Julian pulled a suppressed pistol from his jacket and handed it to Arthur. "And you, Arthur, are the biggest loose end she has."
Suddenly, the glass windows of the garage shattered. Suppressed gunfire rained down from the street. Genevieve’s hit squad had found them.
