Chapter 2 - The Hidden Vial

Liam stared at the blue ink of his grandmother's signature with absolute disbelief.
The legal document gave Claire Sterling complete financial control over the vast Vance family estate upon their marriage.
He closed the leather folder and handed it back to Claire without showing a single trace of emotion.
"I apologize for the misunderstanding, Claire, but I need to put my daughter to bed now," Liam said smoothly.
He scooped Chloe up into his strong arms and carried the trembling child out of the grand salon.
He walked up the sweeping marble staircase toward the heavily guarded nursery on the third floor.
"I promise I will never let that woman hurt you or Grandma," Liam whispered into his daughter's ear.
He tucked Chloe into her soft bed and waited until her exhausted eyes finally closed in sleep.
Liam quietly left the nursery and headed straight down the hallway toward Claire's extravagant dressing room.
He needed to find the missing canary diamond ring to prove that his daughter was not a thief.
He stepped into the massive walk-in closet, surrounded by racks of designer gowns and walls of expensive shoes.
He meticulously searched every velvet jewelry box and every silk-lined drawer on the vanity.
Deep inside the bottom drawer of a locked antique cabinet, his hand brushed against a small velvet pouch.
Liam pulled the pouch open and tipped the massive, glittering yellow diamond ring into his palm.
Claire had intentionally hidden her own engagement ring to frame an innocent eight-year-old child.
But something else caught his eye in the dark corner of the empty wooden drawer.
It was a small, unlabeled glass vial filled with a strange, cloudy liquid.
Liam held the vial up to the light, noticing a tiny medical dropper attached to the lid.

He suddenly remembered how his grandmother's mental health had mysteriously declined exactly when Claire moved into the mansion.
He slipped the ring and the strange vial into his pocket just as he heard the dressing room door handle begin to turn.
