Chapter 10 - The Choice

Adrenaline instantly flooded my system, overriding the severe pain in my stitched side as the fake nurse raised the deadly syringe.

Before she could drive the needle into my IV line, I grabbed the heavy glass water pitcher from my bedside table and smashed it across her face.

She screamed and collapsed onto the sterile floor, dropping the lethal syringe as blood poured from her broken nose.

I ripped the IV out of my arm, stumbling out of the bed just as the heavy wooden doors burst violently open.

Luca rushed into the room, his gun already drawn and pointed directly at the incapacitated assassin on the ground.

“I knew they would try one last desperate move while I was walking out the front door,” Luca growled, signaling for his men to drag the woman away.

He pulled me into a fierce, desperate embrace, burying his face in my hair as he promised I would never be in danger again.

By sunrise the following morning, the news channels were quietly reporting the mysterious collapse of the Romano crime syndicate.

The brutal war that had threatened to destroy everything was finally and permanently over.

Luca brought me back to the restored estate, carrying me up the grand staircase to the lavish master bedroom.

Little Leo was waiting for us, giggling happily and reaching his tiny, innocent hands out for me the moment I walked in.

I held the sweet baby close, leaning back against Luca’s broad chest as we finally allowed ourselves to breathe.

He kissed the top of my head, promising me the world, his loyalty, and a beautiful future together as a real family.

Everything was absolutely perfect, and I had finally found the loving home I had desperately searched for my entire life.

Two weeks later, I was happily organizing the paperwork on Luca’s massive wooden desk while he was out on business.

I accidentally knocked over a thick, sealed folder that spilled a highly classified DNA report onto the floor.

My blood ran completely cold as I read the highlighted conclusion at the bottom of the clinical page.

The test proved I had absolutely zero genetic relation to Luca's murdered wife, Elena.

Instead, the encrypted documents confirmed that I was the lost, legitimate heir of the rival Romano family.

And now, I was raising the son of the man who had just ruthlessly slaughtered my entire bloodline.
