Chapter 6 - The Bridge of Lies

Victor smiled his terrifyingly calm smile, his eyes devoid of any human empathy.
He casually told Julian to get in the back seat before he put a bullet through Elena's heart.
Julian felt a cold sweat break out on his neck, knowing he had absolutely no leverage left.
He slowly raised his hands and nodded to Elena, silently urging her to comply.
They climbed into the back of the muscle car, the heavy doors locking instantly from the front.
Victor drove them slowly toward the massive, abandoned suspension bridge at the edge of the city.
The rain battered against the windshield as Victor casually explained his twisted master plan.
He said he was going to force Julian to sign a massive, lifetime contract extension under duress tonight.
Once the contract was signed, Victor planned to toss Elena off the bridge and frame it as a tragic suicide.
Julian demanded to know where Leo was being held.
Victor chuckled softly and pointed toward a heavily armored medical van parked in the center of the dark bridge.
He revealed that he had actually brought a black-market surgical team to the bridge to perform the heart transplant immediately.
He promised that if Julian signed the contract and let Elena die, Leo would live to see tomorrow.
Julian looked at Elena, his heart shattering into a million pieces at the impossible choice.
Elena grabbed Julian's face, her tear-filled eyes burning with fierce maternal determination.
She whispered for him to let her die if it meant their son would finally be safe.
Julian violently refused, promising he would find another way out of this nightmare.
Victor stopped the car a few yards away from the glowing medical van and unlocked the doors.
He tossed a heavy, encrypted tablet into Julian's lap, displaying the glowing digital contract.
He gave Julian exactly sixty seconds to press his thumb onto the biometric scanner.
Julian looked out the window, calculating the distance between their car and the medical van.
He slowly pressed his thumb against the glowing green screen of the tablet.
Victor smiled in triumph as the digital contract finalized and uploaded to the corporate server.
Suddenly, a massive, deafening explosion rocked the far end of the suspension bridge.

Flames erupted into the dark sky, instantly taking out Victor's backup mercenary vehicles.
Julian's old street-racer friend had actually received the distress message and brought an army of angry drivers to the bridge.
