Chapter 10 - The Unfinished Past

By the end of the week, Arthur Vance was sitting in a maximum-security federal prison.
The decrypted files Lily recovered were more than enough to destroy Thorne Industries entirely.
My corporate empire was completely restored, stronger and more secure than it had ever been.
Lily did not return to her waitressing job at The Jade Room.
Instead, she took an executive corner office right next to mine, learning how to manage the global company she would one day inherit.
We spent our evenings walking through the city, slowly building the relationship we had been denied for twenty-five years.
I finally felt like the ghosts of my past were completely laid to rest.
Everything was perfect, peaceful, and exactly how it was always supposed to be.

I unlocked the heavy wooden doors and immediately noticed something strange sitting on my pristine mahogany desk.
It was a small, plain black velvet box with no return address or shipping labels.
I walked over cautiously and opened the tiny hinge.
Inside rested the original gold engagement ring I had bought for Mei in San Francisco twenty-five years ago.

Beneath the ring was a handwritten note stained with fresh drops of blood.
The note simply read, “You took care of our daughter, but they are coming for me next.”
