Chapter 6 - The Hijacked Flight

The helicopter violently banked to the right, throwing my father against the metal wall of the cabin.

The masked pilot kept his gun trained directly on my father's chest while managing the flight controls with one hand.

"Throw your weapons out the open door, Colonel," the pilot demanded over the headset.

My father hesitated for a fraction of a second, his eyes calculating the odds of a successful counterattack.

"Do it, or I shoot the fuel tank and we all burn," the pilot threatened.

My father slowly unholstered his weapon and tossed it out into the dark night sky.

I cried out in pain as another violent contraction ripped through my swollen stomach.

The immense stress of the night was causing me to go into premature labor.

"Dad, the baby is coming," I gasped, clutching the sides of the stretcher in absolute agony.

My father's calm demeanor shattered as he saw the terror in my eyes.

He looked at the pilot, begging him to land at a nearby hospital to save my child.

The pilot simply laughed and adjusted our flight path toward an abandoned industrial sector outside the city.

"My boss wants the baby alive to guarantee the ransom, so she'll deliver it at our warehouse," the pilot sneered.

My father knew that if we landed at that warehouse, neither of us would ever see the sun again.

He waited until the pilot glanced at the navigation screen for a split second.

My father lunged forward, grabbing the barrel of the pistol and shoving it toward the ceiling.

A deafening gunshot rang out inside the cabin, shattering the overhead control panel.

Sparks rained down on us as the helicopter's engine began to sputter and smoke.

My father delivered a brutal elbow to the pilot's jaw, knocking him out cold.

He grabbed the flight controls, struggling to stabilize the heavy aircraft as it plunged toward the ground.

"Hold on, Emily!" my father screamed over the blaring warning alarms.

The helicopter crashed through the canopy of a dense forest, violently ripping the rotors apart.

Everything went completely black.
