Chapter 2 - The Hostage Situation

The men in the dark suits raised their weapons, their eyes scanning the small apartment.
The military police officers instantly drew their sidearms, creating a deadly standoff in our tiny living room.
I screamed and pulled the blanket over my head, terrified that a stray bullet would hit my unborn child.
My father remained perfectly calm, stepping directly into the line of fire to shield my bed.
"Who are you, and who sent you?" my father demanded, his military training taking complete control of the chaos.
The lead gunman smirked and pointed his weapon directly at Ryan's trembling head.
"Your son-in-law owes our boss two million dollars, Colonel," the man sneered.
Linda dropped to her knees, crying hysterically as she realized the depth of her son's secrets.
Ryan had not just been abusing me; he had been keeping me trapped so he could use my military trust fund to pay off his massive debts.
"He promised us the money would be transferred today," the gunman continued.
"Since he failed, we are taking his wife and the baby as collateral."
My father slowly reached for his own concealed weapon at his waist.
"You will have to kill me first," my father stated, his voice completely devoid of fear.
Suddenly, Ryan lunged forward and grabbed a glass vase from the nightstand.
He shattered it against the wall and wrapped his arm around my neck, holding a jagged piece of glass against my throat.
"Drop your guns, all of you!" Ryan screamed hysterically.
The gunmen looked confused, and my father's eyes widened in absolute shock.
My husband was actually holding me hostage to save his own miserable life.
"If anyone moves, I'll cut her," Ryan threatened, pressing the sharp glass against my skin.
He slowly dragged me out of the bed, my heavy pregnant stomach aching with every step.
My father raised his hands in surrender, signaling his soldiers to lower their weapons.

Ryan dragged me toward the broken window leading to the fire escape, thinking he had won.
He had no idea that a red laser sight from a military sniper rifle was already resting perfectly on his forehead.
