Chapter 8 - The Boardroom Guillotine
The next morning, the smoke still clung to Sam’s clothes as he strode into the towering glass-and-steel headquarters of the Thorne Group. He didn't come alone. He was flanked by a team of high-powered corporate litigators and three armed federal agents.
Marcus Thorne, a slick, arrogant man in a tailored suit, was sitting in his corner office when the heavy oak doors were thrown open.
"What is the meaning of this?" Thorne demanded, standing up from his desk. "Who let you in here?"
Sam walked slowly into the room, his eyes dark, relentless, and completely void of mercy. He tossed a thick binder onto Thorne's desk.
"My name is Samuel Miller," Sam said, his voice deadly quiet. "I am the CEO of Vanguard Holdings. And as of 9:00 AM this morning, I own you."
Thorne scoffed. "You're out of your mind. Get out of my office."
"I bought your shell debt, Thorne," Sam continued, ignoring him. "All seventy-five million dollars of it. You missed a hidden clause in your mezzanine financing. In the event of a change of ownership, the debt can be called immediately. You have exactly twenty-four hours to pay me seventy-five million dollars, or I seize every asset you own."
Thorne’s face went pale. "You... you can't do that. That's illegal."
"What's illegal," Sam said, leaning over the desk, "is money laundering, racketeering, and attempted murder. The federal agents behind me have a warrant for your arrest based on the financial records you thought were hidden."
Thorne looked at the agents, panic finally setting in. He was cornered. "Wait, wait! Let's make a deal. Whatever you want, the block is yours. I'll sign it over."

"I don't want a deal," Sam said coldly. "I want you ruined. You burn down a man's life, you pay with your own."
The agents stepped forward, snapping handcuffs onto Thorne’s wrists. As they led the ruined tycoon out of his own office, Sam turned around and walked out. The war was over. The wolves were dead. Now, it was time to rebuild.
