Chapter 6 - The Shadow War

Sam walked out of the diner without explaining who he was. He couldn't. Not yet. The stakes had fundamentally changed. This was no longer a corporate acquisition; this was a war.
He returned to his luxury hotel suite downtown and immediately transformed it into a war room. He opened his laptop, pulling up every piece of financial data, public record, and shadow transaction tied to the Thorne Group. If Thorne wanted to play dirty in the streets, Sam would utterly obliterate him in the boardroom.
For forty-eight hours, Sam barely slept. He utilized his vast network of forensic accountants, private investigators, and legal sharks. He traced Thorne’s money. The local syndicate wasn't just intimidating people; they were running an elaborate money-laundering operation through the very properties they were forcefully acquiring.
"I have him," Sam whispered to himself, staring at the glowing screen at 3:00 AM.
Thorne had leveraged his entire empire on a series of high-interest shell loans. If Sam’s holding company bought up that specific debt, he could immediately call the loans in. He could bankrupt Thorne overnight.
But Thorne wasn't going to wait. Sam's security team intercepted police chatter on the scanner. A 10-54 report—a suspicious fire—had just been called in at 8th and Elm.

Sam's blood ran cold. Thorne was making his move.
"Get the car," Sam roared to his head of security, grabbing his coat. "Now!"
