Chapter 6 - The Corrupt Badge

Nathan stared at the federal badge, his eyes narrowing into slits of pure ice.
"Gregory fabricated those charges," Nathan said coldly, not moving an inch.
"My wife is on that operating table because Gregory and Damian pushed her down a flight of stairs."
The lead agent, Special Agent Vance, did not lower his weapon.
"We have three sworn witness statements and signed medical affidavits claiming you initiated the attack at the estate," Agent Vance sneered.
"You're coming with us right now, Cross."
Young Toby stepped out from behind Marcus, holding his personal tablet computer in the air.
"Agent Vance, badge number 4402," Toby announced in a loud, clear voice that caught the attention of the hospital security staff.
"Your offshore account in the Cayman Islands received a wire transfer of five hundred thousand dollars forty-five minutes ago."
Agent Vance's eyes widened in sudden, raw panic.
"Where did you get that?" Vance stammered, his finger twitching on his holster.
"I'm a certified network security engineer for Cross Global," Toby smiled coldly, tapping the tablet screen.
"I intercepted Gregory's financial transaction logs before he locked down the mansion servers."
"The routing code matches your personal shell corporation."
Marcus moved with terrifying military speed, disarming Vance before the corrupt agent could draw his firearm.
Marcus pinned Vance against the hospital wall, driving an elbow into his throat until the agent dropped his weapon.
The other four agents backed away, realizing their cover was completely blown in front of the hospital's surveillance cameras.
"Get out of this hospital before I broadcast this evidence to the Department of Justice," Toby warned them.
The disgraced agents grabbed their fallen leader and retreated down the emergency stairwell in disgrace.
Nathan let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, turning back toward the surgical doors.
Suddenly, the red warning beacon above Operating Room Four began to flash violently.
The high-pitched, unbroken tone of a cardiac flatline alarm pierced through the heavy double doors.

A surgical nurse rushed out of the room, her surgical gown covered in blood and her mask hanging loose.
"Mr. Cross! We have a severe cardiac arrest!" she cried out.
