Chapter 7 - The Trap Closes

"That's a lie!" I shouted, instinctively backing away from the officers.
Ethan moved instantly, stepping between me and the police like a human shield.
"Do you have any idea who you are dealing with?" Ethan demanded, his voice echoing with absolute authority.
"I will have your badges stripped by the commissioner in five minutes."
The lead detective didn't flinch, holding up a sealed warrant signed by a federal judge.
"The funds were transferred from the hospital directly into a hidden Cayman account registered in Miss Bennett's name," the detective stated flatly.
"Dr. Vaughn provided the IP logs this morning, showing the transfers were made from her personal laptop."
I felt the room spin.
Adrian had asked to use my laptop for a "hospital presentation" three weeks ago while my car was in the shop.
He hadn't just used me to get to Ethan.
He had perfectly framed me as his scapegoat.
"She isn't going anywhere with you," Ethan growled, pulling his phone from his pocket.
"I am calling my legal team, and you will wait in the lobby."
The detective scoffed, aggressively stepping around Ethan and grabbing my bruised arm.
I screamed in pain as his fingers dug perfectly into the purple marks Adrian had left.
"Hey!" Ethan roared, grabbing the detective's collar and shoving him backward.
The other two officers immediately drew their tasers, aiming the red lasers directly at Ethan's chest.
"Stand down, Mr. Carter, or you will be arrested for assaulting an officer," they warned.
I looked at Ethan, seeing the absolute terror in his eyes as he realized his billions couldn't stop this.
"Don't fight them, Ethan," I cried, holding my hands out to be cuffed.
The metal clamped painfully around my wrists as the detective pulled me toward the door.
As we walked into the hallway, the detective pulled out his radio.

"Target secured, Boss," the detective whispered into the mic, a cruel smile forming on his lips.
"We are bringing her to the private warehouse, just like you asked."
