Chapter 9 - The Broadcast

The screens displayed the classified environmental documents in massive, high-definition text. The words LETHAL TOXICITY and FORGED SIGNATURES were highlighted in bright red for every billionaire, senator, and journalist to see.
"The Sterling Corporation is building on a toxic wasteland!" Clara announced to the horrified crowd. "And when a journalist named Maya found out, they silenced her."
Arthur Sterling pounded frantically on the reinforced glass of the AV booth. "Turn it off, Clara! I will ruin you! I will kill you!"
"You can't kill the truth, Arthur," Clara said coldly into the microphone.
She hit the next button.
The audio recording of Marcus murdering Maya played over the state-of-the-art surround sound system. Marcus's cold, callous voice filled the room, detailing the murder.
“...You're nothing. Just another body in the river.”
The ballroom descended into absolute chaos. Investors screamed at Arthur. The press, realizing they were sitting on the story of the decade, pulled out their cameras and began live-streaming the evidence directly to the internet.
Suddenly, Marcus burst into the ballroom, clutching his bleeding arm. He looked like a madman, his tuxedo ruined. He saw the screens, heard his own voice confessing to murder, and froze.
The heavy oak doors opened for the third and final time.

A dozen heavily armed police officers, led by a swat team, flooded into the grand hall. Leo had made it out, and the anonymous data dump Clara had triggered on the servers had reached the district attorney's office.
"Marcus Sterling!" the police captain roared over the chaos. "Get on the ground!"
