Chapter 10 - The Dawn

Marcus walked out through the front doors of the mansion, leaving the flashing police lights and the chaotic screams of the socialites behind him.

He didn't call a luxury black car. He didn't order a helicopter. He simply walked down the winding asphalt road of the Malibu hills, the cool ocean breeze washing over his face, clearing the smell of stale champagne and cheap perfume from his lungs.

The sun was just beginning to rise over the Pacific Ocean, casting a brilliant, fiery orange glow across the horizon. The dark night was finally over.

Marcus reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. The screen was flooded with thousands of emails and messages. Wall Street was in a frenzy. Aura’s stock had plummeted to zero upon the confession, but as the news of Marcus—the original, uncorrupted genius—taking control of the secured network hit the wire, venture capitalists were already begging to fund his new vision.

He was a billionaire. He was a tech god. He had the world at his fingertips.

Marcus looked at the notifications, his expression remaining perfectly calm. He pressed the power button, shutting the phone off completely, and slid it back into his pocket.

He had spent three years in a cage, dreaming of this exact moment. But as he looked out at the vast, limitless ocean, he realized the true victory wasn't the money, the company, or even the revenge.

The true victory was freedom.

Marcus Vance, the invisible man with the faded t-shirt and the worn canvas bag, adjusted the strap on his shoulder, took a deep breath of the salt air, and kept walking toward the sunrise.
