Chapter 7 - The Bitter Rescue

Eleanor instantly realized they had driven straight from one deadly trap into another.
She forced herself to take the teacup with a steady hand, smiling politely to mask her absolute terror.
The corrupt captain closed his notebook and casually stated he needed to separate the boys for questioning.
Eleanor calmly refused, stating her lawyer was on the way and she would not let the children out of her sight.
The captain's warm smile vanished, replaced by a cold, hardened glare that promised violence.
He locked the heavy office door from the inside and pulled the blinds down over the glass windows.
He drew his service weapon and quietly ordered Eleanor to surrender the encrypted hard drive her husband used for the trust fund.
Eleanor realized Richard must have transferred the digital assets to his corrupt allies before he died.
She smoothly lied, telling the captain she had hidden the drive in a locker at the central train station.
The greedy captain took the bait, demanding she lead him there immediately without causing a scene.
He marched them out the back exit of the precinct, pushing them into the back of an unmarked, heavily armored transport van.
The back of the van was dark, smelling heavily of oil and old blood, and it locked securely from the outside.
As the van began moving through the city streets, Eleanor pulled a hidden hairpin from her soaked hair.
She frantically worked on the interior lock of the heavy metal partition separating them from the driver.
Julian used his expensive phone, which he had managed to hide in his sock, to send an emergency SOS to Eleanor's private lawyer.
The van suddenly came to a violently abrupt halt, throwing them against the steel walls.
Eleanor heard the heavy metal locks on the back doors disengage with a loud, mechanical clunk.
She prepared to fight, grabbing a heavy metal rod she had found rolling around on the floor of the van.
The doors swung open, revealing the abandoned, desolate shipping docks at the edge of the city.
The corrupt captain was not the one standing there waiting to greet them.

Standing in the freezing rain, heavily bandaged and dripping with ocean water, was Richard.
He was holding a massive, heavy iron chain, and he looked like a demon crawling out of hell.
