Chapter 5 - The Infiltration

Elara's confession hung in the dusty air, completely changing everything I thought I knew about her.
I did not have the time or the luxury to care about her dark, violent past.
I told her that if she wanted my protection, she was going to help me hunt her former boss tonight.
Elara nodded silently, a fierce and deadly determination suddenly appearing in her eyes.
We went to my private armory and geared up with heavy tactical vests and suppressed automatic weapons.
I left Prescott in charge of a heavily reinforced guard detail to protect the medical wing at all costs.
Elara and I drove a stealth, unmarked black SUV deep into the industrial district of Chicago.
She guided me to a massive, abandoned shipping yard that looked completely empty from the outside.
She explained that Viktor's true base of operations was a fortified bunker hidden entirely beneath the rusted shipping containers.
We cut through the chain-link fence and moved silently through the heavy fog rolling off the nearby lake.
Elara effortlessly eliminated two armed perimeter guards using nothing but a silent combat knife.
We found the hidden concrete access hatch and descended into the dimly lit underground tunnels.
I followed her lead as we tactically cleared room after room, finding the bunker strangely understaffed.
We finally reached the heavy steel doors of Viktor's personal inner sanctum.
I kicked the doors open with my rifle raised, fully prepared for a massive, bloody firefight.
The luxurious office was completely empty, with a single leather chair sitting behind a large desk.
Resting on the desk was a large computer monitor displaying a live, high-definition video feed.

I walked closer to the screen and felt my blood run absolutely freezing cold.
The video showed Viktor Volkov standing casually inside the grand hallway of my own mansion.
