Chapter 3 - The Subterranean Vault

I forced Elias to strip Cole of all his weapons before we dragged him to the medical bay.
The compound was equipped with a surgical suite that rivaled a private hospital.
I stitched up Cole's shoulder while my brother paced nervously in the hallway.
When I finished, I locked the heavy medical door from the outside, trapping the mercenary inside.
I turned to Elias, my anger finally replacing my shock.
"You let a shadow-company assassin into our bunker," I whispered furiously.
"He saved my life," Elias argued, running a hand through his dirty hair.
"Cole defected from them because he found out what they were actually looking for."
I crossed my arms, waiting for an explanation that made sense.
"Dad did not die in a plane crash, Maya," Elias said softly.
"They murdered him to get the architectural blueprints for this specific house."
I shook my head, refusing to believe the conspiracy.
"There is nothing here but canned food, water tanks, and ammunition," I said.
Before Elias could respond, a blaring siren echoed through the corridors.
Red emergency lights began flashing violently from the ceiling.
I rushed to the nearest wall panel and pulled up the internal diagnostic schematics.
"Did they breach the perimeter?" Elias yelled over the noise.
I stared at the screen, my mind failing to process the data flashing before my eyes.
"No," I replied, my voice dropping to a terrified whisper.
"The breach is not coming from outside."
I pointed a shaking finger at the architectural map on the monitor.
The screen showed a massive, sprawling level far beneath the basement we were standing in.

It was a sub-level I never knew existed, entirely omitted from my father's original blueprints.
And according to the motion sensors, something down there had just broken out of containment.
