Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Betrayal

Silas looked perfectly relaxed in the velvet armchair.
He gestured with his gun for Camilo to place the ledger on the desk.
Camilo slowly placed the book down, keeping his body between Silas and Joanna.
Silas praised Joanna for her excellent memory regarding the safe code.
He casually mentioned that her mother was currently enjoying a very scenic drive toward the river.
Joanna let out a choked sob and begged him not to hurt her mother.
Silas said Eileen's survival depended entirely on Camilo's cooperation.
He ordered Camilo to sign a legal document transferring all estate assets to Silas.
Gabriel raised his gun, but Silas pressed his barrel harder against Joanna's temple.
Camilo told Gabriel to drop the weapon.
Gabriel hesitated, then reluctantly dropped his gun to the floor.
Camilo picked up the solid gold pen sitting on the desk.
He looked at Silas and asked if signing it would truly save Joanna and her mother.
Silas promised on his life that they would walk away free.
Camilo leaned over the desk to sign the papers.
As he moved, he subtly knocked over a heavy crystal bourbon decanter.
The glass shattered loudly on the hardwood floor, startling Silas for a microsecond.
Camilo lunged across the desk and grabbed the barrel of Silas's gun.
The weapon fired, the suppressed bullet grazing Camilo's ribs.
Gabriel tackled Silas to the ground, punching him ruthlessly in the jaw.
Camilo grabbed the ledger and pulled Joanna toward the door.
He told Gabriel to finish it and follow them.
Just as they reached the hallway, the estate's emergency alarms began blaring.
Dozens of heavy footsteps echoed up the grand staircase.

Camilo looked out the window and saw a fleet of black SUVs blocking the driveway.
The vehicles did not belong to Silas or the police.
