Chapter 9 - The Ultimatum
Ivan Volkov's heavily accented voice echoed aggressively through the completely ruined bedroom, chilling me entirely to my core.
"You have exactly two minutes to completely surrender the woman, Giovanni, or I will aggressively burn this entire mansion entirely to the ground with you inside it!" Ivan roared from the dark hallway.
Giovanni leaned heavily against the overturned dresser, his breathing incredibly shallow and dangerously ragged.
"Do not listen to him, Jessica," Giovanni whispered, his grey eyes completely glazed with severe pain.
I pressed the bloody towel even harder against his deeply wounded shoulder, tears of pure terror stinging my eyes entirely.
"We cannot just completely wait here to actually burn to death," I cried softly, looking desperately at Lily cowering in the corner.
"My heavily armed reinforcements are coming," he promised weakly.
"They will absolutely never make it in time if he actively sets the house on fire right now!" I argued frantically.
I looked entirely around the completely destroyed room, my mind furiously searching for any desperate way out.
The massive, floor-to-ceiling balcony windows were entirely shattered from the violent gunfire.
I quickly ran over to the destroyed balcony and looked directly down.
We were entirely on the third floor of the massive estate, an incredibly sheer drop straight down to the stone patio completely below.
There was absolutely no safe way to escape.
"One minute, Giovanni!" Ivan yelled happily, the terrifying sound of a heavy lighter flicking echoing loudly in the hall.
I ran aggressively back to Giovanni, grabbing his completely blood-soaked face tightly in both of my hands.
"You have to entirely surrender me to him," I stated firmly, my voice surprisingly completely steady.
Giovanni’s eyes snapped entirely wide open in absolute, complete shock.
"Are you completely insane?" he gasped aggressively.
"If you entirely hand me over right now, he will successfully let you and Lily absolutely live," I explained desperately.
"I will absolutely never do that, Jessica!" he roared angrily, completely trying to push my hands away.
"You officially promised to completely protect my daughter!" I screamed directly back at him.
"If we all completely stay in this room, she will actively burn to death, Giovanni!"
He completely froze, looking directly over at the terrified little girl entirely huddled in the corner.
I could actively see the violent, incredibly agonizing war completely raging behind his intense grey eyes.
He was the brutal, dangerous mafia billionaire who completely controlled entire massive shipping ports.
But right now, he was just a desperately bleeding father completely unable to save the family he had just truly found.
"Thirty seconds!" Ivan laughed brutally from the dark hall.
"I smell the expensive gasoline completely soaking the carpets right now!"
I stood up completely and forcefully walked directly toward the shattered bedroom door.
"Jessica, absolutely stop right now," Giovanni pleaded desperately, completely struggling to stand up on his bleeding legs.
I completely ignored him, raising my entirely empty hands high above my head.
"I am coming completely out right now, Ivan!" I yelled loudly into the dark hallway.
"Do not actively shoot me!"
I slowly stepped entirely over the completely dead mercenaries and walked entirely into the hallway.
The massive corridor was heavily filled with incredibly thick, dark smoke.
Ivan Volkov stood completely at the end of the hall, holding a heavily lit torch and smiling completely like a true demon.
He was entirely surrounded by six heavily armed, incredibly massive Russian mercenaries.
"Very smart choice, little nurse," Ivan sneered happily, gesturing aggressively for his massive men to grab me completely.
Two massive guards rushed entirely forward, violently grabbing my arms and painfully twisting them firmly behind my back.
"Where is the pathetic child?" Ivan demanded coldly.
"She is not actually Giovanni’s real daughter," I lied entirely smoothly, staring completely directly into his dark, brutal eyes.
"She is just entirely my pathetic kid from my previous marriage."
Ivan actively studied my face for a very long, terrifyingly intense moment.
He entirely believed the desperate, completely convincing lie.
"Bring the pathetic woman completely to the trucks," Ivan ordered his massive men loudly.
"We will brutally interrogate her entirely at the warehouse."
They aggressively dragged me forcefully down the grand staircase, completely ignoring the incredibly massive amounts of blood entirely staining the imported marble floors.
We completely exited the front doors entirely into the freezing, totally dark Chicago night.
I looked desperately entirely up at the destroyed third-floor balcony, silently praying that Giovanni and Lily were completely safe.
They violently threw me entirely into the dark back of a massive armored transport truck.
Ivan casually climbed entirely in right beside me, completely locking the heavy steel doors entirely shut.
"You are going to completely tell me absolutely everything about the Fierro syndicate's massive weaknesses, Jessica," Ivan smiled brutally in the complete dark.
I said absolutely nothing, completely accepting my terrifying, brutal fate entirely to actively save my beautiful daughter.
The heavy armored truck aggressively started its massive engine and tore completely down the long, winding driveway.
We drove entirely in total, suffocating darkness for exactly fifteen incredibly agonizing minutes.
I was completely preparing myself for the absolute, brutal torture that was entirely waiting for me at the dark warehouse.
Suddenly, the massive armored truck violently swerved completely out of control, slamming aggressively on its heavy brakes.
The terrifying sound of massive, explosive gunfire completely erupted entirely outside the heavy steel doors.
