The deafening sound of police sirens completely surrounded the abandoned factory below us.

Dominic's loyal men stormed the roof moments later, securing the unconscious Mark in heavy steel handcuffs.

I sat on the wet gravel, rocking Lily back and forth until her crying finally subsided into gentle hiccups.

Dominic knelt beside us, wincing heavily as the adrenaline wore off and his bullet wound flared with pain.

I rode in the back of the ambulance with him, using my medical authority to keep him stable all the way to the hospital.

Six months later, the terrifying memories of that rainy night felt like a distant nightmare.

Mark was serving a life sentence in a federal supermax prison for money laundering and attempted murder.

Dominic had officially stepped down from his dangerous life, using his immense wealth to open a legitimate security firm.

We were living in his beautiful, heavily guarded mansion in upstate New York, far away from the chaos of the city.
