Chapter 4 - The Resurrected Brother

The suppressed gunshot echoed softly across the damp subway tiles.
Julian grunted in pain and stumbled backward, clutching his bleeding left shoulder.
I screamed and raised my handgun, firing three wild shots toward the hit squad.
The bullets sparked against the concrete pillars, forcing Marcus and his men to briefly take cover.
Julian quickly recovered his balance and returned heavy fire with his assault rifle.
The deafening roar of the approaching cargo train filled the massive cavern.
Julian shouted for me to get the children onto the train the second it slowed down.
The heavy steel boxcars screeched loudly against the rusted tracks as the train applied its brakes.
I grabbed Toby and Ivy, practically throwing them into an open cargo door as it rolled past.
I pulled myself up into the dark boxcar just as a bullet shattered the wooden frame inches from my head.
Julian provided covering fire, walking backward toward the moving train.
He grabbed the metal handle of the boxcar and hoisted his muscular frame inside.
We collapsed onto the wooden floorboards, completely exhausted and gasping for air.
The train accelerated rapidly, leaving Marcus and his men furious on the distant platform.
I crawled over to Julian and pressed my hands firmly against his bleeding shoulder.
He gritted his teeth and told me the bullet had passed completely through the muscle.
I ripped the hem of my shirt and tied a tight tourniquet around his arm to stop the bleeding.
Julian leaned his head back against the cold steel wall and closed his eyes.
Toby crawled over and gently placed his small hand on Julian's uninjured arm.
The young boy thanked Julian for saving his life from the bad men.
Julian looked down at the boy and promised him that no one would ever hurt him again.
I asked Julian why Marcus would betray him after twenty years of absolute loyalty.
Julian stared into the darkness of the rattling boxcar with a look of pure dread.
He told me that Marcus was not smart enough to orchestrate a coup of this magnitude.
Marcus was taking orders from someone who possessed immense wealth and historical power.
Julian pulled his encrypted satellite phone from his tactical vest and dialed a secure number.
The line clicked open, and a chillingly familiar voice echoed from the small speaker.
The voice casually asked Julian how his wounded shoulder was feeling.
May you like
Julian's face went completely pale as he recognized the arrogant tone.
It was his older brother, Silas, who had supposedly burned to death in a car crash ten years ago.
