Chapter 10 - The Promise Kept
Julian stared down at his pathetic brother for a long, silent moment.
He finally lowered his weapon, deciding that Silas deserved to rot in a federal maximum-security prison instead of getting a quick death.
He ordered his men to hand Silas and the Mayor's cloned data directly over to the FBI task force waiting outside the perimeter.
The absolute destruction of Silas's shadow empire was swift, complete, and merciless.
The corrupt Mayor was arrested on national television the very next morning, destroying his political career forever.
Julian utilized his immense wealth and legal power to officially adopt Toby into the Hail family.
He promoted me to the position of Chief Executive Officer of his legitimate hotel enterprise, ensuring I would never have to clean a floor again.
We moved completely out of the dangerous Manhattan penthouse and bought a massive, heavily fortified estate in upstate New York.
Ivy and Toby became inseparable siblings, running happily through the massive green gardens completely free of fear.
Julian even bought Ivy the biggest, fluffiest stuffed dog in the entire city, exactly as he had promised.
We slowly formed a beautiful, unconventional family unit built on absolute trust and profound love.
Julian finally stepped away from the violent mafia life, dedicating his entire existence to protecting us.
The nightmare was permanently over, and we finally had the perfect, happy ending we all truly deserved.
Late one evening, Julian and I were sitting peacefully on the back porch, watching the children sleep through the security monitors.
A silent alarm softly flashed on the main control panel, indicating a package had been left at the front gate.
Julian walked down the long driveway and retrieved a small, unmarked wooden music box.

The note simply read: "Did you really think the Hail bloodline was the only one that mattered?"
