Chapter 7 - The Vault
Claire stared at her younger sister in absolute shock.
Paige explained that Margaret had bailed her out of police custody an hour ago and ordered her to come to the mansion to ensure the bomb went off.
Paige sobbed, admitting that she could not let her innocent niece die for Margaret’s greed.
Claire grabbed the heavy wire cutters from Paige’s hand, realizing it was the only weapon they had.
They quietly slipped through the mansion’s side door, navigating the dark, familiar hallways of Claire's former prison.
They checked David’s massive private office, but the room was completely empty and the desk was overturned.
A muffled shout echoed from the lower levels, drawing their attention to the basement stairs.
They crept down the marble steps and hid behind a large decorative pillar near the entrance to David's climate-controlled vault.
The heavy steel door of the vault was standing wide open.
Claire peered around the pillar and felt her blood turn completely cold.
Margaret was standing in the center of the vault, aiming a silver handgun directly at David’s chest.
Ava was tied securely to a heavy wooden chair in the corner of the room, crying silently behind a piece of duct tape.
