Chapter 9 - The Fire Suppression
The sharp, toxic smell of gasoline rapidly filled the freezing warehouse air.
Greg stood at the edge of the chemical puddle, casually flipping the metal lid of his lighter open and closed.
He taunted me, claiming that my father had explicitly promised to pay off his syndicate debt if he finished the job tonight.
I slowly positioned my body directly in front of Marisol, shielding her from the highly flammable liquid.
I kept my pistol aimed directly at Greg's chest, but I knew firing a bullet into gasoline vapors could trigger an immediate explosion.
I needed to stall him just long enough to execute the backup plan I had formulated in the car.
I asked Greg if he truly believed my father was going to pay him, considering I had just drained every single bank account my father owned.
Greg hesitated, the silver lighter freezing in his trembling hand as doubt clouded his drug-addled mind.
I confidently informed him that my father was currently broke, and Greg was about to commit murder for absolutely nothing.
As Greg furiously screamed that I was lying, I reached into my coat pocket and blindly pressed a button on my encrypted phone.
Years ago, when my company owned this warehouse, I had personally designed the building's automated security grid.
I had just manually activated the facility's highly classified emergency fire suppression system.
A deafening mechanical siren blared from the ceiling, echoing violently off the metal walls.
Massive overhead vents instantly deployed a thick, suffocating cloud of white Halon gas and high-pressure water directly onto Greg.
The chemical deluge instantly neutralized the gasoline vapors and knocked the lighter completely out of his hand.
Greg screamed in shock, slipping on the wet concrete and crashing hard onto his back.
Before he could even attempt to recover, the massive rolling doors of the warehouse were violently violently breached.
Julian’s elite tactical team swarmed the building with assault rifles raised and tactical flashlights blinding the room.
The FBI agents, whom Julian had tipped off an hour earlier, followed closely behind to place Greg in heavy steel handcuffs.
I quickly untied a sobbing Marisol, wrapping my heavy coat around her freezing shoulders.
I watched the authorities drag my screaming, pathetic brother-in-law out into the pouring rain.

My father was arrested simultaneously at his country club, completely humiliated in front of his wealthy peers.
I finally breathed a massive sigh of relief, knowing my toxic family was permanently locked away and could never hurt me again.
