Chapter 6 - The Morning Raid

Tuesday morning dawned bright and clear. The Sterling Estate, a massive faux-French chateau in the hills, was quiet.

Until 6:30 AM.

A convoy of black SUVs with tinted windows roared up the winding driveway. Dozens of federal agents in tactical gear poured out, surrounding the property. The media, tipped off by an anonymous source (my sister Chloe, who was thoroughly enjoying her new role as my unofficial publicist), was already camped outside the gates with long-lens cameras.

Inside the mansion, Victoria was sitting in her silk robe, drinking a mimosa and reading a newspaper piece that praised her "resilience."

The front doors were breached with a battering ram.

"FBI! Keep your hands where we can see them!"

The footage aired on every major network by noon. Victoria Sterling, stripped of her makeup and her arrogance, was led out of her mansion in handcuffs. She tried to hide her face behind her hair, screaming at the cameras to stop filming.

Moments later, Julian was dragged out. He was crying visibly, begging the agents to let him call his lawyer.

I watched the broadcast from my office. I didn't cheer. I just felt a profound, heavy sense of closure. The monsters were finally locked in the cage.
