Chapter 4 - The Viral Inferno

We didn't go to a reception. We went to a greasy, neon-lit diner downtown, still wearing our formal attire. I sat in a red vinyl booth, eating a slice of cherry pie in my ruined, wine-soaked dress. It was the best thing I had ever tasted.
Chloe’s phone hadn't stopped buzzing since we left the church.
"Elena, you're trending," Chloe said, her eyes glued to her screen. "Someone in the pews recorded the whole thing. It’s all over TikTok and Twitter. The hashtag #RunawayAuditor is number one."
My father chuckled, taking a sip of black coffee. "I always knew you were too smart for that trust-fund idiot."
By 6:00 PM, the story had officially broken. The New York Times published a bombshell article titled: The Sterling Facade: How a Bride Exposed a Billion-Dollar Fraud at the Altar. The flash drive I had provided was a treasure trove of undeniable evidence.
My phone rang. The caller ID showed a blocked number, but I knew who it was. I answered it and put it on speaker.
"You ruined us!" Julian’s voice sobbed through the speaker, pathetic and small. "The board of directors just called an emergency meeting. They’re voting to oust my mother. My credit cards are already frozen!"

"Remember who you are, Julian," I replied smoothly, echoing his mother’s note.
I hung up, blocked his number, and took another bite of pie.
