Chapter 6 - The CPS Nightmare

I stood frozen in the courthouse parking lot, struggling to process the absolute insanity of the phone call.
Bethany was actually trying to use the state government to legally seize my property.
I handed the phone to Richard, who immediately switched into aggressive defense mode.
He informed the CPS agent that I had zero criminal history and would gladly submit to a drug test immediately.
We drove straight to a certified medical laboratory, where I provided a sample for a full-panel screening.
The results came back completely clean within an hour.
Armed with the negative drug test, the hidden camera confession, and the backup flash drive, we went directly to the police precinct.
We bypassed the patrol officers and demanded to speak with the lead detective in the fraud division.
Detective Vance listened to our story, his expression growing darker with every piece of evidence we presented.
"This is not just a civil dispute anymore," the detective said, carefully examining the forged lease and the flash drive.
"This is grand theft, forgery, and bribery of a public official."
He promised to begin drafting the arrest warrants for my parents and my sister immediately.
I finally felt like I was waking up from a horrible nightmare.
I thanked the detective and walked out to the lobby to wait for Richard.
My phone chimed with a secure, encrypted message from an unknown number.
I opened it and found a message from Kenneth, my spineless brother-in-law.
"Sally, I am so sorry," the text read.
"Bethany has lost her mind, and I want to take the kids and run before she ruins all our lives."
He begged me to meet him at a coffee shop three blocks away, promising to give me the original forged documents to guarantee his immunity.
I hesitated, knowing Kenneth had always been too terrified of Bethany to act independently.
But if I had the original forged lease, their entire defense would crumble instantly.
I walked to the coffee shop and found Kenneth sitting nervously in a corner booth.
He slid a manila envelope across the table toward me.
As I reached for it, Kenneth quickly bumped his coffee cup, spilling it all over my purse.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry," Kenneth gasped, grabbing a napkin and violently scrubbing at my open bag.
May you like
I grabbed his wrist to stop him, but I was a second too late.
I looked down and saw that Kenneth had just dropped a massive, sealed bag of white powder directly into my purse.
