Chapter 6 - The Sister's Betrayal

I stared at the barrel of the gun in absolute disbelief.
I asked Vanessa what she was doing, hoping this was just a terrible misunderstanding.
She smiled coldly and told me that she had never intended to give up her luxurious lifestyle.
She admitted that her tears in the garden were entirely fake, designed to lure us into a false sense of security.
Vanessa explained that our parents had promised her twenty percent of the stolen funds if she delivered the USB drive.
She commanded Liam to pull the catering van over to the side of the desolate highway immediately.
Liam glanced at me through the rearview mirror, his jaw clenched in tight frustration.
He slowly brought the heavy vehicle to a stop on the gravel shoulder overlooking the ocean cliffs.
Vanessa snatched my phone and the black USB drive from my lap with a triumphant sneer.
She ordered us to step out of the van and walk toward the edge of the steep cliff.
The cold ocean wind whipped around us as we stood dangerously close to the deadly drop.
Vanessa dialed a number on her own phone and proudly announced that she had secured the objective.
Within minutes, a sleek black helicopter appeared over the dark water and hovered above the highway.
It landed gracefully on the empty road, its spinning rotors kicking up massive clouds of dust and debris.
The cabin door slid open, and Martin Ellis, the billionaire investor, stepped out into the night.
I was completely confused as to why the so-called victim of my father's fraud was arriving in a private chopper.
Martin walked over to Vanessa and gladly accepted the black USB drive from her hands.
He then pulled out his own weapon and pointed it directly at my sister's head.

He thanked Vanessa for her incredible stupidity and laughed at her shocked expression.
Martin revealed that he was not a victim at all, but the true mastermind behind the entire criminal syndicate.
