Chapter 8 - The Interrogation

They slammed me violently against the hood of the cruiser and slapped cold steel cuffs on my wrists.

I screamed repeatedly that my daughter had been kidnapped, but nobody listened to me.

I was dragged into a windowless, freezing interrogation room at the county precinct.

I sat there for agonizing hours, staring at the concrete wall, slowly losing my mind.

Finally, the heavy metal door creaked open.

A tired-looking detective walked in and tossed a thick manila file onto the metal table.

"Your father-in-law is in a coma, Mr. Vance," the detective said coldly.

"I didn't hurt him!" I begged him. "Someone took Chloe!"

The detective sighed heavily and opened the file folder.

He pulled out a stack of glossy photographs and spread them across the table.

They were high-resolution images taken inside my own house.

The photos showed me standing in Chloe's room, holding her aggressively by the shoulders.

They were taken from an angle that made it look like I was shaking her violently.

"We found a hidden camera in your daughter's bedroom," the detective explained with disgust.

"The footage clearly shows you abusing her, leaving those horrific handprints."

I stared at the photos in absolute, paralyzing disbelief.

The pictures were incredibly realistic deepfakes, perfectly manipulated to put my face on the abuser's body.

"My wife can prove I was with her all day when these were taken!" I pleaded desperately.

The detective shook his head slowly, a grim look on his face.

"Your wife is the one who gave us the camera footage, Harrison."
