Chapter 3 - The DNA Test

The tension in the penthouse was thick enough to choke on.

Nobody moved as Leo held the small silver device in his dirty hand.

"Put that down," Arthur commanded, though his voice cracked slightly.

Leo chuckled and tossed the device onto the expensive glass coffee table.

"It's not a bomb, you paranoid old man."

Julian stepped closer and realized it was just a high-tech digital audio recorder.

"Marcus told me to record your reaction," Leo explained, crossing his arms.

Eleanor fell to her knees, weeping softly into her hands.

"I am ordering an expedited DNA test right now," Arthur barked, pulling out his phone.

"I will prove this street rat is a fraud."

For the next four hours, a private medical team swabbed the cheeks of Arthur, Eleanor, Julian, and Leo.

While they waited, Julian tentatively walked into the guest room where Leo was sitting on the edge of a massive, soft bed.

"Is it true?" Julian asked softly.

"Did you really live on the streets?"

Leo looked at his twin brother's perfectly manicured hands and clean clothes.

"I slept on subway grates to keep from freezing to death while you were taking piano lessons."

Julian looked down in shame.

"I didn't know you existed."

Leo softened slightly, seeing the genuine guilt in his brother's eyes.

"It's not your fault, Julian."

Suddenly, the heavy doors opened and Arthur stormed in, holding a medical folder.

Eleanor was right behind him, looking terrified.

"The results are in," Arthur announced, his voice devoid of emotion.

He threw the papers onto the bed next to Leo.

Eleanor snatched them up, her eyes scanning the bold black text.

She gasped and dropped the paper.

"Leo is my biological son," Eleanor whispered, looking at Arthur.

Arthur smiled a cruel, sickening smile.

"Yes, he is your son."

Arthur stepped closer to his wife, his eyes filled with burning fury.

"But the test also proves that neither of these boys belong to me."
