Chapter 6 - The Bulldozer

I sat quietly in Molly’s car, watching my life's greatest physical achievement being surrounded by metal fencing.

The massive yellow bulldozers idled loudly on the crushed remains of my expensive front lawn.

Karen was completely trapped on the front porch, shivering in the cold morning air as she realized her squatter strategy was failing miserably.

She could not flush a toilet, charge her phone, or even make a warm cup of coffee.

The luxurious fantasy she thought she had stolen had transformed into a miserable, freezing nightmare.

Ten minutes later, Karen finally broke.

She grabbed her designer purse, ran down the driveway, and squeezed through a narrow gap in the construction fence.

She practically sprinted down the street toward the neighborhood coffee shop to seek shelter.

"She left the perimeter," Molly stated, tapping her fingers excitedly on the steering wheel.

I immediately dialed the construction foreman's direct number.

"The unauthorized occupant has vacated the premises," I informed him.

"Change the exterior locks immediately and secure the property for official handover."

The foreman gave a sharp whistle, and his crew rapidly moved to secure the shattered front door with heavy plywood and steel padlocks.

My phone chimed with an email notification from Jennifer.

The digital deed transfer documents were fully prepared and waiting for my electronic signature.

I quickly tapped the screen, officially signing my beautiful mansion over to the commercial developer.

The massive cash payment was immediately wired directly into a secure, private offshore trust account that Brent completely lacked access to.

I let out a long, heavy sigh of relief, feeling the massive weight of the property finally lift from my exhausted shoulders.

"The house is officially sold," I whispered, looking back at Ivy sleeping peacefully in her car seat.

Molly cheered loudly, wrapping her arm around my shoulder in a tight, protective hug.

"We need to get out of here before Brent lands," Molly advised sensibly.

We drove quickly back to Molly's secure apartment building, locking the heavy deadbolts behind us.

I spent the next few hours feeding Ivy and watching the local news, waiting for the inevitable explosion.

At exactly two in the afternoon, my phone began to ring incessantly.

It was Brent, calling repeatedly, his face flashing angrily on my caller ID.

I finally answered, placing the phone on speaker so Molly could hear every single word.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" Brent screamed, his voice completely devoid of his usual arrogant charm.

"I am standing outside the house, and there is a demolition crew preparing to tear down my property!"

I rocked Ivy gently in my arms, keeping my voice incredibly calm and steady.

"It is not your property, Brent," I reminded him simply.

"It was my property, and I just finalized a highly lucrative cash sale."

"The new owners are turning the lot into a luxury condominium complex."

A heavy, terrifying silence fell over the phone line.

I could actually hear Brent's rapid, panicked breathing through the speaker.

"You can't do that," Brent choked out, genuine fear finally bleeding into his tone.

"I just secured a two-million-dollar loan against that specific address."

"The investors in Miami are wiring the funds based on the equity of that house!"

"If the property doesn't belong to me, the loan is considered massive wire fraud!"

I smiled, feeling a dark, satisfying sense of absolute justice.

"Then I highly suggest you call your cartel friends and cancel the wire transfer," I advised coldly.

"Because if they try to place a lien on a property owned by a billionaire developer, you are going to end up in federal prison."

Brent let out a horrifying, guttural scream of pure rage.

"You ruined my life!" he roared into the phone.

"You ruined our family's entire future out of pure, selfish spite!"

"I am coming over to Molly's apartment right now, and you are going to give me the cash from the sale."

"If you don't give me that money to pay back the investors, I swear to God, Tessa, I will make you pay."

Before I could respond, the sound of shattering glass echoed loudly through the phone speaker.

Brent had violently smashed something on the street in his blind fury.

"You will never see a single dime of my money," I stated firmly.

"If you come anywhere near me or my daughter, I will have you arrested for trespassing."

I hung up the phone and immediately blocked his number.

Molly looked at me, her eyes wide with deep concern.

"He is desperate, Tessa," she warned quietly.
