Chapter 10 - The Echoes of Tomorrow

“You are remarkably persistent, Daniel, but entirely too stupid to realize when you've already lost the game,” Victoria sneered, her finger resting dangerously on the trigger.

She confidently demanded that Daniel slide the shotgun away and prepare to sign the corporate transfer documents she had neatly laid out on a nearby crate.

Daniel slowly raised his hands in a gesture of absolute defeat, carefully stepping away from the unconscious body of his former security chief.

But as he backed away, a sudden, chillingly arrogant smile slowly crept across the bruised and bloody face of the billionaire.

“You really think I drove halfway across the city to confront an armed psycho without bringing my own backup?” Daniel laughed, his voice completely devoid of fear.

Before Victoria could even register the absolute confidence in his tone, the heavy basement windows violently shattered inward under a barrage of flashbang grenades.

Dozens of heavily armored SWAT officers aggressively poured into the room from every single conceivable angle, their laser sights painting Victoria’s designer dress in a terrifying sea of red dots.

Daniel had secretly forwarded the GPS coordinates directly to the police commissioner the exact second Leo had discovered the hidden tracker's location.

Victoria dropped the heavy pistol instantly, screaming in furious, unhinged rage as heavy steel handcuffs were violently ratcheted onto her manicured wrists.

Daniel practically sprinted across the concrete floor, falling to his knees and pulling Emily and Leo into an incredibly tight, desperate embrace.

The nightmare that had haunted their family for three agonizing years was finally, permanently over.

Six months later, the massive, gloomy mansion had been completely transformed into a warm, brightly lit home filled entirely with the joyous sounds of laughter.

Emily was speaking beautifully in full, confident paragraphs, and Daniel had officially signed the rigorous legal papers to adopt Leo as his own beloved son.

The three of them were happily packing up Emily's old, sad toys to donate to a local charity when Leo made a startling discovery.

While examining her mother's favorite wooden music box, his fingers accidentally pressed a hidden latch, violently popping open a secret compartment hidden in the base.

Inside the dark compartment lay a faded, heavily folded photograph showing Victoria taking a thick envelope of cash from a tall, incredibly shadowed man.

When Leo flipped the photograph over to check for a name, his blood ran completely cold at the terrifying handwritten message.

The messy note read: "Daniel's twin brother didn't die in the fire twenty years ago, and he is coming for Emily next."
