Chapter 10 - The Reckoning

I lunged forward with explosive speed as the grenade dropped from his hand.

I did not go for Cameron; I dove directly for the falling explosive.

I caught the grenade in mid-air and hurled it instantly into a reinforced concrete ventilation shaft.

A split second later, the explosion shook the room, but the thick concrete safely absorbed the deadly blast.

Cameron stared at the empty air, completely stunned that his final desperate plan had failed.

Before he could take another step, I hit him like a freight train.

I tackled him to the metal grating, driving my fist into his jaw with absolute, unforgiving fury.

He tried to fight back, but he was just a spoiled coward hiding behind stolen power.

I disarmed him, pinned his arms, and delivered a final strike that knocked him completely unconscious.

I tied his wrists with heavy zip-ties and dragged him out of the generator room like a sack of garbage.

When I reached the lower spillway, a massive federal assault team was already swarming the facility.

General Marcus Hale stepped out of an armored command vehicle, looking grim and authoritative.

"You took your time, Dean," the General said, signaling his men to take custody of Cameron Voss.

I watched the federal agents drag the billionaire’s son away in heavy iron chains.

I ran to the medical evacuation chopper where paramedics were carefully treating Emily.

She reached out, grabbing my hand tightly, and offered me a weak but beautiful smile.

The nightmare was finally over, and the corrupt empire of the Voss family had burned to ashes.

A few days later, we were resting in a highly secure, private hospital suite under federal protection.

Emily was recovering perfectly, and the doctors assured us her legs would fully heal in time.

I sat by her bedside, holding her hand while she slept peacefully through the quiet afternoon.

I decided to organize her personal belongings that the police had recovered from our destroyed home.

I opened her leather purse and found a strange, unmarked black envelope tucked deep inside the lining.

Inside the envelope was a photograph of me and my Ghost Squad team taken in a classified warzone three years ago.

A handwritten note attached to the photo read, "Your husband murdered my family, Emily, and Cameron was just the distraction."
