Chapter 6 - The Motel Rescue

I did not even hesitate before screaming at Otis to step on the gas pedal.

Otis slammed my car directly into the back of the loan sharks' rusty van with a deafening crash.

The massive impact startled the two criminals, causing them to drop their heavy weapons onto the pavement.

Otis kicked his door open and instantly drew a licensed, concealed handgun from his shoulder holster.

He aimed directly at the thugs and ordered them to get flat on the ground with their hands behind their heads.

I sprinted past the chaotic scene and aggressively kicked the cheap wooden motel door completely off its hinges.

The teenage nanny was cowering in the corner of the filthy room, covering her ears in absolute terror.

Hudson was crying loudly on the stained mattress, trying bravely to shield his baby sister with his small body.

I scooped Hudson into my arms and grabbed baby May, holding them so tightly against my chest I never wanted to let go.

I promised them they were completely safe and rushed them out to the safety of my damaged vehicle.

The local police arrived seconds later, swarming the parking lot with flashing lights and drawn weapons.

Officers quickly arrested the two loan sharks and took the terrified nanny into protective custody for questioning.

I sat in the back of an ambulance while paramedics gently checked my precious grandchildren for any injuries.

A seasoned detective walked over to me, looking completely exhausted but wearing a small, victorious smile.

He informed me that the FBI had successfully intercepted the private charter jet directly on the runway.

Caroline was currently sitting in a federal interrogation room at the downtown precinct.

The detective asked me to come to the station to provide an official statement regarding the abandoned children.

I walked into the police station holding my grandbabies, feeling a massive wave of protective maternal fury.

The detective led me to a dark observation room behind a large two-way mirror.

I looked through the glass and saw my daughter sitting in the interrogation room, looking angry rather than defeated.

Caroline looked directly at the mirror, making aggressive eye contact as if she knew exactly who was standing there.

She confidently told the federal agents that she had absolutely nothing to do with the corporate embezzlement.

She claimed that her mother, Margaret, was the true criminal mastermind who orchestrated the entire syndicate.
